Written from the employer’s perspective, this article shows which sectors face the greatest shortage, why it persists, and how Asian workers help businesses keep growing.

Legal disclaimer: This article is for information only and does not constitute legal advice. On its own, therefore, the reserve does not fill the skilled and production positions that open up. It follows that targeted recruitment of workers from abroad is not a failure but a sensible, planned step – a natural part of a growing business.

How do Asian workers help?

Right where the shortages are: Asian workers are employed in large numbers precisely where the shortage is greatest – in manufacturing, construction, logistics and hospitality.

Reliability and low staff turnover: a predictable, committed employment relationship gives the employer the ability to plan, which is the basis of continuous production.

Availability and scalability: larger, targeted headcount increases are also achievable when the market picks up.

A proven presence: tens of thousands of foreign workers are already employed in Hungary, predominantly in the very sectors listed above – a working, tried-and-tested solution.

What does this mean for employers?

Well-chosen foreign workers are not a stopgap but a precondition for growth: they ensure that production, construction or logistics does not grind to a halt for lack of capacity. Employers who plan their labour needs consciously and in good time can take on expansion with confidence – and the shortage remains a manageable task rather than a brake.

Sources

Hungarian Central Statistical Office (KSH) – Employment and unemployment (2025) (in Hungarian)

Portfolio – The role of Asian guest workers employed in Hungary (2025) (in Hungarian)

M.
