Every season, a vegetable farm in southern Hungary faced the same question: would there be enough reliable hands in the fields? The answer came in the form of a fifteen-strong team of experienced seasonal workers from Nepal.
Seasonal labour shortages are one of the oldest problems in Hungarian agriculture: at the peaks of planting, weeding and harvesting, many hands are needed at short notice, yet for years the domestic labour market has been unable to supply that headcount. At the start of every season our client, a vegetable farm in southern Hungary, faced the same uncertainty: would there be enough reliable people in the fields when the crop could no longer wait? Some of the few applicants dropped out in the first days of physical work, putting both the pace of the harvest and the quality of the crop at risk.
During the needs assessment we clarified the season’s labour requirements, the physical nature of the work and the exact timing, and then based our sourcing on Nepal, where seasonal agricultural work has a strong tradition and workers are used to demanding manual labour. After background checks and a review of previous experience, we put together an experienced team of fifteen, who arrived together in time for the start of the season. Arriving as a group also made induction simpler: the team worked as a close-knit unit, at a shared pace.
Following selection, we handled the entire permit and immigration procedure and organised travel, accommodation and the logistics of deployment, so that the farm could concentrate on production. The team worked reliably for the full length of the season; the harvest proceeded on schedule and at a consistent quality, and the farm can now plan the next season with a proven team it can bring back — instead of repeating uncertain recruitment year after year.
